FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the Library Learning Commons hours? 

Monday - Friday: 8:15 am  – 3:30 pm   

  • There is a Leadership classes in the library on Monday and Tuesday mornings from 7:30 am - 8:30 am
  • Sometimes the LLC closes early if there is no library staff available to supervise students.
  • Sometimes the LLC closes early if there is a meeting.
  • Sometimes the LLC closes for a special activity or presentation.

 

How many Library books can one take out?

5 books – unless you need more and have proven yourself to be a reliable library user.

How long can one keep the Library books?

3 weeks.

Can one borrow a Chromebook from the LLC?

Yes, we have Chromebooks available for overnight borrowing. Please return it by 9:00 am. If you need to use the Chromebook for a longer time, please discuss this with our Library staff. 

Can one borrow an Audio Book from the LLC?

Yes, we have audio books that were chosen to match the books read in English classes. We also have a subscription to Audible and 5 mp3 players available for student use. If you want to regularly listen to audio books, check out HOOPLA. This is available by downloading the app and registering with a Penticton Public Library card. 

Can a student borrow from the DVD collection?

Yes, if a DVD is part of a class resource, students can sign it out overnight.

Does the LLC have Yearbooks?

Yes, we have an almost complete collection of Yearbooks dating back to 1925. Staff and students can view annuals in the library and pages can be photocopied if needed. Yearbooks are not signed-out.

How do I renew or reserve items?

Students can access their library accounts and login with their student number and computer password. Students can use the computers in the library or go to the PSS Website and clicking on: Departments/Library/Resources & Databases

Sign in and go to My Account/My Borrowing and Loan to renew items. If a student wants to reserve a book, click reserve.

What happens if one does not return the Library materials on time?

We do not charge fines for late items. The Library staff will give the student a phone call home, send out an automated e-mail, or personally tell the student to return the item. If the student does not return the item, their library account will be locked and no further resources can be loaned out.

What happens if a person loses or damages a Library book?

Library fines are payed through the Accounting Office. Students can pay with cash, e-transfer or School Cash Online. See Mrs. Boothman in the Accounting Office for details.

How many computers are there in the Library? 

  • 5 desktop computers 
  • 60 laptops from Cart A and Cart B (these can be signed out for use in the library)
  • 15 laptops (Laptop C) for individual use during school hours 

 

Are there any other Library rules?

  • Be courteous, considerate of others, and respect the workplace.

  • Leave your work space tidy by tucking in the chairs and taking all your materials with you.

  • Read or work quietly on assignments. The LLC is a place for quiet, purposeful work, which may include focused group collaboration.

  • Drinks must be safely covered. Eating should leave no evidence. Please put all your garbage and recyclables in the proper bins.

  • No gaming on school devices

  • Handle books and archive materials with care.
