Dear Grade 9 Students & Their Parents, Guardians, or Representatives,
RE: Grade 9 Immunizations
As part of the BC School Immunization program, the clinics for Grade 9 students at Penticton Secondary School are scheduled for Tues, Feb 10th and Thurs, Feb 12th, 2026. If you have not completed the consent package online, a personalized paper consent is being sent home with your student.
Please complete the paper consent form and return it to PenHigh in the return envelope provided by:
• Fri, Jan 9th, 2026
You are still able to complete the consent Online until Fri, Jan 30th, 2026. If you complete the consent online you do not need to return the paper consent.
Information about Grade 9 immunizations, including how to complete the consent form can be found here:
• IH School Immunizations
Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to review the immunization information, discuss it, and together decide about immunizations. However, be aware that under the Infants Act of BC, Grade 9 students are legally allowed to grant or refuse consent for vaccinations under Mature Minor Consent. Please read the links below to acquaint yourself with this information and facilitate a family discussion about preferences for vaccination.
• Infants Act (gov.bc.ca)
• The Infants Act, mature minor consent and immunization - HealthLinkBC File #119 - Printer-friendly version
If we do not have up-to-date immunization records for your child, either:
• Submit a photocopy along with the completed consent form to the school, or
• Submit records through the digital consent system, or
• Call Public Health Nursing at the Penticton Health Centre to discuss your child’s immunization history and assist in finding records.
We recognize that some students can be nervous about getting a needle. The CARD system (C-Comfort, A-Ask, R-Relax, D-Distract) is a method that helps support students to have a more positive experience. For more information about CARD see: card_parent_what_is_card.pdf
Note: We DO NOT offer or provide influenza or covid vaccinations at school clinics.
If you did not receive a consent form or have any questions, please contact the Public Health Nurse for Penticton Secondary School, Cally Curle, at the Penticton Health Centre.
Sincerely,
Cally Curle, PHN, RN, BSN
